The ideal relationship between art and science in my major is important. Lehrer said science needs the arts like the news, newspaper, and articles because it brings in new ideas that can improve our future in many different ways. “By heeding the wisdom of the arts, science can gain the kinds of new insights and perspectives that are the seeds of scientific progress”. This passage supports art being incorporated into my major because it talks about how you gain new insights and perspectives through arts like the news. This is important because in pharmacy you need to stay up to date with current news on drugs, which helps lead to realizations and updates on current, and new drugs for patients and how they work. On the other hand, Pinker said that the arts and sciences should be separate, but I do not agree with this due to my major. Pinker says that the sciences and arts are separate because our minds put them into different categories automatically. “The world does not go out of its way to reveal its workings, and even if it did, our minds are prone to illusions, fallacies, and superstitions” This passage shows how arts and science are separate, which in my major does not make sense. This is like saying we will use drugs that we have known about for a long time because our minds are familiar with them and we will not use the new drugs to cure illnesses and diseases because we are not familiar with them.

Pinker does not show support that art and science are connected to each other. Pinker says that science is what makes a person educated, so that is how the world sees people today who have learned science without the art. “The worldview that guides the moral and spiritual values of an educated person today is the worldview given to us by science”. I do not agree with this passage towards my major because pharmacy is an up and coming industry, which they find new information daily. I believe to find this new information it is needed to use art with sciences. I believe that the art Pinker believes relates to science is not a helpful part of my career as a pharmacist. Pinker says that the arts are not the same as learning specific science courses like you do in college. “No sane thinker would try to explain World War I in the language of physics, chemistry, and biology as opposed to prebiotic chemicals almost four billion years ago”. This passage does not support my belief that a pharmacist will only need science to explain things like drugs. Drugs also need the art side, which helps with the research side of the pharmacy. Art has many other important impacts on pharmacists.
