In this article, the author links mindset and attitude together. He refers to the military terms to show how a fight against a disease can be linked to words like “battle” and “fighter”. Depending on how the patient interpret these words it can determine their mindset. When the author uses military terminology, it can shape a patient very well and make them understand that they are a fighter and if I fighter fights hard enough in their battle they can make a positive outcome. If the patient uses this and the fighter does not have a strong mindset it can also lead to the patient believing that they did not fight as hard as they could have, and it sends them a negative attitude and mindset.

I have had situations in my life where this has had an impact on my family’s life and I think to a certain degree this is true. If you set your mindset to be positive and that you can work your hardest to do so, but you need support from others, not just yourself. If you have a push from other around it can be very helpful. Another thing that I believe is that you have to be in an environment that makes you happy and where you have positive thoughts.

The Trouble with Medicine’s Metaphors:

I chose “The words we choose to describe illness are powerful”, because in this essay it describes how words can be accepted in positive and negative ways depending on the context.

See through words:

I chose “At a conceptual level, life is a journey, and arguments are wars: you take sides, there can only be one winner, evidence is a weapon”, because it shows how we look at metaphors one side depending on what you believe and do not think about the other side of the quote.

Metaphorically Speaking:

I chose “Metaphor creates a kind of conceptual synesthesia, in which we understand one concept in the concept of another”, because it shows how a metaphor is created and why we see metaphors in this way.

Fantastic. You wrote, “Another thing that I believe is that you have to be in an environment that makes you happy and where you have positive thoughts.” I couldn’t agree more. Can you explore the impact metaphor could have on this need?

I encourage you–if you feel able–to connect your personal experiences into your paper.
