Summary

John Lehrer’s main point is to show how science needs the arts. John takes a long time to bring up this point. It was almost two pages into the essay that he started introducing how he believes that science needs art. He used the first two pages to talk about background on physics and how he has been fascinated by cubist paintings. These pages say that he likes it, but he never brings it back to any point until after he introduced the points. He should’ve introduced his main point earlier, so we could connect his thoughts and beliefs. I think when he said, “by heeding the wisdom of the arts, science can gain the kinds of new insights and perspectives that are the seeds of scientific progress”, he connected this well to his new belief that was introduced.

You pick up on many things as you annotate. Great job! Continue to work on fleshing your marginal comments out. Don’t be afraid to write longer sentences. In fact, it’s possible to begin a paper in the margins of an assigned text.
